In order to improve the services provided to citizens, the Delhi Police Licensing Unit is to be integrated with DigiLocker through the National E-Governance Division (NeGD).

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has given his approval in principle for all licenses and registration certificates issued by the Licensing Unit to be available on DigiLocker in its digital format.

Delhi, incidentally, will be the first state to be onboarded to DigiLocker, having been the first to introduce weapon licenses in the form of smart cards, the official said.

OP Mishra, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Licensing), said DigiLocker is a flagship initiative of the Union’s Department of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to provide a repository for accessing authentic documents and certificates in digital format from their sources or from the issuing body. .

“As the Licensing Unit issues many licenses digitally and maintains a digital database of licenses, integration with DigiLocker will add value to service delivery. Citizens will now be able to store their licenses digitally in the DigiLocker and can use it to establish authentication of the physical copy they possess if required upon verification by law enforcement. will also have an authentic source to verify these licenses,” he said.

He added that the licensing unit provides licenses, registration and no objection certificates to weapons, boarding houses, restaurants, swimming pools, movie theatres, auditoriums, occasional shows, explosives, video game parlors and nightclubs.

“In line with government initiatives in e-governance and digital service delivery, the unit has taken many initiatives and issues these licenses and certificates on the applicant’s registered email. Delhi also became the first state to issue the arms license in the form of a smart card,” Mishra said.
