Minister TN inspects facilities at Vellangiri Hill Shrine
Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments of Tamil Nadu (HR and CE), PK Sekar Babu, on Sunday walked about 6 km to the hills of Vellangiri, the abode of Lord Shiva here, to examine the availability of facilities.
Babu and senior officials from HR and CE departments walked barefoot on the hills, at an altitude of 6,000 feet in Poondi, about 25 km from here and inquired with the locals about the basic facilities available for the devotees and the requirements for developing the hill sanctuary. .
According to official sources, the legislature has decided to develop roads in the hill shrines of the state and a team of experts will soon be assembled to determine the feasibility of laying roads at a cost of Rs 1 crore here.
The minister also inspected the food served at the shrine as well as special accommodation facilities for pilgrims, with officials present, they said.
The Shiva Temple attracts thousands of devotees from all over the country.
HR and CE Commissioner J Kumaragurubaran and Additional Commissioner R Kannan accompanied the minister during the review, the sources said.
